A series of experiment have been conducted to investigate the performance of jute cord as reinforcement elemen of concrete beams. Altogether six concrete beams with mix proportion by volume between 1 cement : 2 sand : 3 split and water content ratio 0,45 were cast to a final dimension of 10 15 110 cm. Concrete Beam I was cast with no reinforcement while Beam II was reinforced in the traditional way, namely with steel rods of 6 mm diameter in the tension zone. Beam III and IV were reinforced with jute cords of 6 mm diameter in the tension zone. Resin coating was applied on the surface of the jute cords in Beam IV while the jute cords in Beam III were without coating. BeamsV and VI were reinforced with jute cords which were pre-stressed. The jute cords in Beam VI have been preliminary treated with resin coating while those in Beam V were not coated. The beam were subjected to bending test 28 days after they were cast at UKRIM |
