Embung or telaga in Indonesia is a naturally occuring depression on the ground that can be developed into a reservoir to store water during the rainy season to be utilized during the dry season. The objective of this study is to estimate the storage capacity of telaga Sumur Ombo, a natural depression in Desa Jepitu at Kabupaten Gunungkidul, an area known for its accute water shortage problem during the season. The storage capacity was estimated following the guidelines provided by the Standar and Design Criteria For Small Reservoir issued by Directorate General for Water Resources Republic of Indonesia. The anlysis shows that Telaga Sumur Ombo has a potential storage capacity of 40.087.140 litre, which will be sufficient to serve 15,36% of the population of the area consisting of 909 households for a period of six months during the dry season. |
